Creating a News-Intro Part 4

Creating a News-Intro Part 4 - News Logo

Step 1

Start Sony Vegas and create a new project (PROJECT -> NEW). In the "Video"-field choose "match media settings" and select the created background loop from Part 1 of our tutorial. Sony Vegas will create a project with NTSC-widescreen settings (864x486 / 29,97 fps).

 

Step 2

Right-click in the first video track and select "Insert Text-Media" from the pop-up window. Now adjust the parameter like shown in the following image:

Step 3

Now select the text clip (1), right-click and choose "Video Event FX". The effects menu will appear. Choose "Sony TV Simulator" (2) from the list:

Enter the following values or try to find your own:

At next right-click on the empty video track (1) below the text-clip and choose "Insert Generated Media". Select "Sony Color Gradient" from the menu (2) and click "ok":

 

Step 6

Choose "dark red" from the preset-selection (1). You can leave the effect settings as they are or play around with your own (2):

 

Step 7

Right-click the gradient-clip in the timeline window and select "Video Event FX" again. Then add the "Cookie Cutter" effect to this clip (1) to cut out a circular shape. Adjust the settings (2) as shown in the following image:

 

Step 8

The preview-window should show something like this:

 

Step 9

Right-click the gradient-clip in the timeline window again and select "Video Event FX". Then add the "Glow" effect to this clip (1)and adjust the settings (2) as shown in the following image:

 

Step 10

Now we add some animation to the logo: Select the text-clip, right-click and select "Event Pan/Crop". Move the timeline-slider (1) to Position 0:00:00,00 and click the "+"-icon (2). Enter the following values (3):

Move the timeline-slider (1) to Position 0:00:00,15 and click the "+"-icon (2). Enter the following values (3):

 

Step 12

Now we add some animation to the red circle: Select the gradient-clip, right-click and select "Event Pan/Crop". Move the timeline-slider (1) to Position 0:00:00,00 and click the "+"-icon (2). Enter the following values (3):

 

Step 13

Move the timeline-slider (1) to Position 0:00:00,13 and click the "+"-icon (2). Enter the following values (3):

 

Step 14

Click on the upper left corner of the gradient-clip and drag it to timecode-position 00:00:00,15 (1):

 

Step 15

Select "PROJECT -> RENDER AS" to create a Quicktime file. Select a folder and a name in the output-settings. Click on Quicktime and select the "Movietools - Quicktime Alpha" template (1). If you don't created the Movietools Render-Templates for Sony Vegas before, please read here (link). Click on "Render" to create the movie.

 

Step 16

To use your created logo animation, simply import the rendered quicktime file to your project. Place it (1) on top of a video clip (2) in your timeline:

 

Step 17

Remember to activate the alpha channel of the logo-animation: Right-click the logo-animation, select "properties", choose the "media"-tab and set the alpha-channel option to "premultiplied". Thats all :)
